The San Diego Rescue Mission is a nonprofit that aims to solve one of the most important issues in the city: homelessness. In 2012, the number of people in San Diego without homes hit a record of over 9,600. Although this figure had dropped by 2020, the decline has since reversed. A 2022 count of San Diego residents without homes or living in shelters found that at least 8,427 people across the city are experiencing homelessness.

There are many reasons why homelessness occurs, including health problems, rise in rents, financial insecurity, and addiction. To address these issues, the San Diego Rescue Mission offers shelter, meals, and other services. Since its inception, the organization has provided more than 70,000 nights of shelter and served over 300,000 meals to people in need. Additionally, the Rescue Mission offers job training to help people escape poverty and create better lives for themselves.
